Juneau Maslanka Music Festival

Donation protected
Help support a festival celebrating the music of David Maslanka  in Juneau, Alaska in June 2015!

Juneau is best known for it's striking natural beauty and wildlife, but it also hosts a thriving music and arts community! Many talented musicians call Juneau home, but it's remoteness makes it difficult and oftentimes cost prohibitive to bring outside guest musicians in to perform and work with local ensembles.

However, you can help us bring composer David Maslanka as well as some wonderfully talented guest musicians from the Boston Conservatory, Ithaca College of Music and Simpson University to Juneau, Alaska to perform with the Juneau Wind Ensemble in June 2015!

For the main event of the Juneau Maslanka Festival, Conductor William Todd Hunt  will lead the Juneau Wind Ensemble in a performance of works by David Maslanka including his Concerto for Trombone and Wind Ensemble featuring Juneau's own Katy Giorgio on solo trombone. Mr. Maslanka has generously offered to travel from his home in Missoula, Montana to Juneau to work with and mentor the  ensemble for this very special concert.

Other guest artists who will be traveling to Juneau to perform:

Karl Paulnack, Ithaca College of Music, piano
Brian Calhoon , The Boston Conservatory, percussion
Rhonda Rider , The Boston Conservatory, cello
Dwayne and Caryn Corbin , Simpson University,  percussion

In addition to the Juneau Wind Ensemble concert, other activities planned for the festival weekend:

- A concert of Maslanka's chamber music
- Open rehearsals
- Masterclasses/open coachings for adults and local high school students
- Youth music workshop
- Meet and greet reception with the composer and guest musicians

This fundraising effort will support the following expenses:

- Concert hall rental costs
- Equipment and instrument rental costs
- Sheet music purchases
- Honorariums for the guest musicians
- Airfare to/from Juneau for the guest musicians
- Program and poster production and printing
- Advertising costs
- Other concert, rehearsal and transportation expenses

All proceeds will go directly to Juneau Community Bands , the sponsoring organization. We would gladly accept donations of Alaska Airlines miles for plane tickets for the guest musicians. Please contact us if you are willing to donate your miles.

Donations to Juneau Community Bands are tax deductible!

Please help us reach (and exceed!!) our goal!
