200k Masks for St. Vincent & The Grenadines

This April, La Soufrière, the highest peak on the island of St. Vincent, started a pattern of explosive eruptions similar to the large explosion of 1979. Experts forecast these eruptions will be larger than those experienced in 1979 and will last for WEEKS.

In an effort to assist Vincentians living through this environmental emergency we are organizing to provide 200,000 3 ply surgical masks to local organizations. The threat of continued volcanic ash makes this bulk donation necessary: "The fine ash particles, which are difficult to clean up, pose a respiratory risk, especially for people with underlying issues." - Richard Robertson, a geologist with the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre [ via NPR 4/10; NPR 4/12 ]

The entire amount of this GoFundMe covers the purchase cost and freight of 200,000 masks delivered to St. Vincent.
