Masks for South-Side Nursing Homes

Hello,
We are students from the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. Knowing that seniors are most vulnerable to COVID-19, we have wondered how the nursing/retirement homes in our community are doing. It is truly heartbreaking to hear how many cases of this pandemic are showing up in nursing homes throughout our country. In Italy, some seniors are even being denied treatment in hospitals because of the limited amount of medical resources.
We reached out to multiple nursing homes in the begininng of April to ask about donating masks and have already received numerous affirmative responses. Therefore, we would like to donate masks to local nursing/retirement homes on behalf of Lab School students and their friends/families. With our parents’ assistance, we have bought 12,000 surgical masks and had them shipped from China. Purchase and expedited shipping cost for this amount of masks has been pricey (around $7,000), so we are using this page to raise money to help cover a portion of the cost.
We will start to drop off the masks in the coming days. In the meantime, the University of Chicago Medical Center is on our backup donation list.
Please join us in our strive to help the elderly community. We hope that by helping senior citizens, we can reduce the risk of potential cases, thus "flattening the curve”. We sincerely hope you consider contributing to this fund, as it would help many seniors and caretakers who continue to reside and work during this difficult time.
