Mask Drive

Donation protected
With “back to School” season approaching, some concerned parents across the City of Chesapeake are organizing a “Mask Drive” for the youngest learners who may find themselves in school buildings earlier than their peers out of necessity. We are partnering with a wholesaler and local screen printer(s) to ensure that every child who needs one is provided a clean, reusable, and “stylish” mask. Our hope is that by pooling our resources with those who can spare a few dollars we can fill a gap in our social safety net.

Each cotton mask will run about $1.25, but we are also having “tiger paws” and Schools’ initials screen printed on as many as we can. One of our organizers is also working to sew fashionable masks to supplement our “stock,” so donations may be allocated to materials such as cloth, elastic, etc. We even have a specialist able to embroider children’s names or initials on the masks to make it easier on our little ones and teachers.

The blue, disposable masks aren’t made for this type of public health crisis. The elastic is cheap, and we don’t want our school buildings reminding people of clinical settings if they must be occupied. Any assistance provided would be greatly appreciated. Donations of materials and/or labor for the “sewing circle” portion of our Mask Drive can also be arranged by contacting: [email redacted]

Thank you so much for your interest!
