Right now, we need love. We need community. We need a reason to celebrate life!
“According to the CDC, Black mothers in the U.S. die at three to four times the rate of white mothers, one of the widest of all racial disparities in women's health. Put another way, a Black woman is 22 percent more likely to die from heart disease than a white woman, 71 percent more likely to perish from cervical cancer, but 243 percent more likely to die from pregnancy- or childbirth-related causes” (Npr.org).
As a part of a larger community fundraising effort, I am going to live stream my home birth. The project will take place in St. Paul, MN in the home of my mother and grandmother in the historic Rondo Community. This is my second home birth.
One of the primary goals of this campaign is to bring awareness to BLACK/POC/LGBTQ Mothers and Birth Workers. I want to back the effort by:
- Creating scholarships for Black/POC/LGBTQ women to have a home birth & doula by a woman of color. I also plan on awarding two scholarships to fund one midwife and one doula as they train in their respective professions.
- Giving away donated products to viewers and supporters.
Virtual Intimacy
By bringing viewers into my sacred birthing space, my hopes are to promote advocacy through action and activism. This experience also allows for an intimate/voyeuristic (almost fantasy-like) escape of our collective current reality. People need a break in their routines to defuse these high-anxiety times.
