Mary-Ca's Tanzanian Hospital Fund

I have set up this account to raise money for a charity called UL GIVE, which is a charity set up by the medical students of the Graduate Entry Medical School in the University of Limerick, Ireland.
Every summer, medical students, whom are entering their final year of study, on behalf of UL GIVE, go and volunteer in rural Tanzania Hospitals. UL have partnerships with three rural hospitals and this June I have been placed in St. Francis Hospital, Ifakara which is a small hospital located in South Central Tanzania, East Africa.
Once we are in Tanzania, it is also our duty to identify specific areas that need improvement in the hospitals and villages. On return from our travels, we present our findings to the charity committee and decide what the funds raised should be spent on. This means that 100% of the money I raise will go towards improving the everyday lives of the people in Ifakara. For example, money raised by previous UL GIVE volunteers provided the necessary resources to build a new water hygiene system in Kolondato village.
As medical students in UL, there is a huge emphasis on clinical skills and proper hygiene techniques and as a volunteer, I hope to share my knowledge and experience with those who may not have had formal teaching in these areas. Volunteering will also be an amazing opportunity to learn from the medical practitioners who work in a healthcare system that is very different to our own.
Although I am travelling to Tanzania in June, I will be fundraising until next Autumn when I start back to college. I cannot express how grateful I would be for any donations, as I have seen some of the amazing work this charity has done for our partner hospitals in Tanzania, and I am very proud to represent UL GIVE this summer.
