MaryAnn's Wheelchair Van

Donation protected
On Thanksgiving weekend, 15 years ago our family received life altering news; our Mom, MaryAnn, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme. She was given 6-18 months to live… only 2% of patients with this type of inoperable brain cancer make it to 10 years post-diagnosis. To describe the fact that she is still with us today is amazing, in fact we believe it is miraculous! She has been able to see all of her kids get married, she has welcomed 8 grandkids into the family, she has enjoyed 15 years with our Dad which she never thought she would see… we do know how very fortunate we are.

But these 15 years, as wonderful as they have been, have also been very challenging. And our Dad, Norm, has truly been the most self-sacrificing, courageous, remarkable caregiver to his wife.  Neither of them ask for anything, ever, and we think if they knew this was happening, they would tell us to stop… but the reality is, that they could use a hand right now… with our Mom requiring full time care, our Dad made the tough decision a few years ago to retire from work as a Personal Support Worker in hopes that he could continue to keep her in their home, where she is most comfortable, for as long as possible. They live simply and always within their means, but finances are tight and Mom’s care requirements and level of mobility have changed significantly.

Mom is a creature of comfort and of habit; she likes her coffee with French Vanilla creamer, scotch mints, sitting in the sun, and going on scenic drives. It used to be rides on the back of Dad’s motorcycle, but then about 5 years ago she lost her ability to walk and so the car was the vehicle of choice. Today she is experiencing further difficulty; standing and transferring are no longer simple tasks as she has become wheelchair bound, which means that even getting out for drives in the car (a lifeline during the long winter months) has become truly difficult.

We are so grateful for the friends and family who have, over the years, been so loving and supportive to our family—your kindness and generosity have not gone unnoticed. But we are here now, asking if you would kindly consider contributing towards the purchase of a new wheel chair and a wheelchair accessible van for our parents. We know that times are challenging for everyone these days, and we want to say in advance, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU. Your support, regardless of amount, is deeply deeply appreciated.

Love, Terri, Lindsey, and Steven
