In mid-March I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 2b. At that time I had one tumor in my breast and two tumors in my lymph nodes. During an ultrasound to check the clips my surgeon had placed during the biopsy he performed, my ultrasound indicated that there was another mass right below the tumor in my breast. So, a second ultrasound guided biopsy was ordered by the radiologist. The biopsy results came back that the second mass in my breast is more cancer and the size of it has me moving from stage 2b to stage 3. After meeting with my oncologist it was determined that I need to have a CT and an MRI before my first surgery to see if I have cancer anywhere else in my body. With all of this said, I will have a long road ahead of me after my first surgery including chemotherapy, a second reconstructive surgery and radiation. We applied for and will receive aid from the hospital but it only pays for bills directly from the hospital, not the contractors that are working to ensure that I am cancer free when this journey is over. The contractors included my surgeon, oncologist, radiologist, pathologist and several others that I have not had cross my path just yet.
