Mary McLean's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Monday, September 10, was my Dad's 80th birthday, but it was also the day that my Mom suffered a massive heart attack and she's lucky to be alive. While they're still assessing the damage to her heart, she's recovering in the hospital, but it will be a long road to recovery. I'm currently looking to cover costs of in-home care for my Dad while she recovers. Here's our story:

Caring for Everyone Else
If you know my Mom, you that she's one of the most kind, caring,  compassionate, and selfless people on the planet. She's been caring for my Dad, who has severe Parkinson's Disease, for years, on top of working as a Caretaker for Seniors in her community. She worked 7 days a week, on top of taking care of my Dad, and the stress finally caught up to her.

The Road to Recovery
In order to ensure that she recovers and does not suffer another heart attack, she will need to rest and not be able to exert herself. Caring for my Dad involves a lot of labor. Helping him get out of bed, showers, bathroom, getting him to the dinner table, into the car, etc. are all very labor intensive processes. She won't be able to work, drive, or take care of my Dad for a few months to ensure a safe recovery.

We Need Your Help
I'm currently looking to cover costs for in-home medical care for my Dad to ensure a safe recovery for my Mom. I've been paying approximately $100/day for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening for help with dressing, showering, and medications while my Mom is in the hospital, but I can't afford this for much longer.

Family has been very involved throughout the process, providing meals and housekeeping, but we simply don't have the experience to give my Dad the level of care that he deserves and need to keep in-home care for at least a couple of months until we can figure out a long-term care plan.

I've been on the phone all week with various agencies, insurance companies, and programs and in-home care is simply not covered under Medicare, even with a Doctor's prescription! Any other government programs could take months, or even years, to get approved for. In addition to in-home care, we will need to get a lift chair, which are all well over $1,000, so that my Dad can easily get up out of a chair and into his wheelchair when he needs to leave the house. Their lack of income, combined with in-home care costs, puts a huge financial burden on an already struggling family.

Mama's Girl
I love my Mom more than anything, and the last thing I want is to see her struggle, stress about money and taking care of my Dad while she tries to recover. Even if you only have $1 to give, everything adds up and I appreciate any donation. The longer we can sustain in-home care for my Dad, the greater her chances of a successful recovery.

THANK YOU!
