Mary Lacy's Medical Fund

Hi my name is Jennifer Meador, and this is to help my sister Mary Lacy who was in a serious car accident on 9/5 doing what she always does, helping others. First let me give you some background.

Both our mom and dad's side of the family hail from Rockport, and our family was greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Luckily all our family in Rockport was physically unharmed, but the loss and destruction did not miss them. Last count, we had severe water and wind damage or complete loss to more than 8 homes, 2 barns, and lost ~40 head of cattle in the storm surge.

Then being without electriciy and water quickly shifted them from cleanup efforts to survival. After the storm, my dad and I went down for a week to bring supplies and help aunts, uncles and cousins sift through salvage and clean-up. My sister Mary Lacy desperately wanted to be there with us, but being a mom to 2 boys came first.

Undeterred, she began fund raising and working with local merchants to collect/donate tools and supplies to support relief efforts. She also continued to be the main hub of communication for our family in other areas of country.

Then on Labor Day, Mary Lacy was on her way to pick up our dad returning from Rockport when she was in a severe car wreck and star flighted to an Austin trauma hosptal.

She suffered a fractured sternum, a shattered tibia and fibula just above the ankle on her right foot, and a broken bone and ligament damage in her left foot.  (which we call the "good foot")
She had her first of 2 surgeries on 9/5 to put in an external fixator which set the bones as we waited for the swelling to go down in preparation for her 2nd surgery on 9/11 where she had 4 plates and 19 screws permanently installed.

This is just the beginning of her journey.  As the pain and swelling is managed, she will be moved to a rehabilitation facility to get the PT she needs to return to full recovery.

All of this comes with a cost, and with more than 2 weeks in the hospital and an unknown amount of time in rehab,  the cost is quickly rising. Mary has car insurance which helps but was quickly consumed. Mary is self-employed and does not have medical insurance to kick-in, so there is quite a hardship on the family. We are working on attaining a charity bed in the rehabilitation center, but if that doesn't materialize the costs could be even higher.

I am hoping that as a group we can help give back. Thanks for reading and any amount you are able to give.  Your prayers are always welcome too!
