Mary Catherine's a HERO

Donation protected

THE EVENT: A few days before Thanksgiving, Mary Catherine and her two (2) young children were in a serious 4- car accident on Interstate 89 in Burlington VT when Mary had an epileptic seizure, drifting into the Southbound lane and oncoming traffic at a frightening speed. Luckily, her children (nor the other drivers of the cars) were not injured, but Mary had to be transported to the hospital in Burlington. At the UVM Medical Center, Mary presented with a broken pelvis, 4 fractured ribs,  swelling and abrasions on her face from the airbag, a broken nose, internal bleeding from a hematoma on her kidney and found that she was in need of a neck brace.
Upon arrival, she was immediately pressured to have a Covid-19 test, which she declined. The staff warned her that she would have to leave the hospital, as she was putting everyone at risk. One nurse suggested that she get her things and leave and then said to her, "Oh, but wait, you can't walk now, can you?". Is this what we expect from our healing institutions?  Was this kind of cruelty really necessary?

Mary was then left in complete isolation and was not allowed to have her nursing one-year-old with her.  Because she declined the test, they put her in the COVID ward!  After an onslaught of phone calls from some amazing individuals, Mary was released from the COVID ward, had her back surgery and was able to go home to her family for Thanksgiving.

Mary had just recently moved to a new part of Vermont and is now without a vehicle or cell phone (both lost in the crash).  She and her two (2) young children could use some help getting through the winter until she gets back to walking and working again. Although Mary is safe and doing well in her recovery, her family is in need of financial assistance for food, clothing, gifts for the kids for the holidays and medical bills.

Please donate what you can! This incredible woman is a hero to all of us. Even a few dollars will make a big difference, and allow Mary some room to breathe while she continues her healing journey.

Blessings to you all and many thanks for your kind contributions!  Merry Christmas AND Happy New Year to you~
