Mary Anne Poce means a lot of things to a lot of people: a friend, a companion, a daughter, a sister, a beloved wife. But Mary Anne's favorite title was, and always will be "mother" to her beautiful daughter Sarah. Sarah is a 13 year old who suffers from Rett's Syndrome. She is non-verbal and requires around the clock care. Mary Anne was Sarah's biggest supporter and along with her husband Rick, cared for Sarah in a way that no one can explain unless it is seen firsthand. Sarah has a personality that is like a ray of sunshine. Here mother and father like to say that she is perpetually merry! Much like her mommy, she meets each day with a "carpe diem" resilence and a smile.
Mary Anne was diagnosed with a seven centimeter tumor her right breast in 2011, after returning from a trip with her husband Rick to celebrate their 10 years of being happily married. Following the devestating diagnosis, she endured countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, brain surgeries, a double masectomy, and countless other treatments. Although doctors gave her 2 years to live in August, 2015, Mary Anne never let a timeline deter her from fighting her hardest to kick breast cancer's butt! She found her biggest strength in her little Sarah and in her insurmountable faith in God. She perservered for so long with the goal of always being there to care for Sarah.
Mary Anne was been unable to work for the past few years due to the intense treatments that she endured. Cancer treatments, alone, are tremendously expensive. Now, pair those hundreds and thousands of dollars of treatments with the additional heavy costs of caring for a child with a severe disability, and now having to pay for a funeral for the pillar of their family. This is an overwhelming job to ask of anyone, and Rick has taken on the task with such strength and faith. Mary Anne deserves a birth into everlasting life that truly celebrates the warmth and the celebration of faith, hope, and love that eminated from her.
