Before he retired as a shovel operator from Phelps Dodge- he invested in 40 acres and slowly built it into a ranch he now calls home. For the past few years- he’s had issues with his back and had surgery. That slowed down some of the plans he had for his ranch and retirement. On the evening of September 22nd, while out at the ranch he started having chest pains and his wife Vesta drove him to Morenci where they flew him to TMC- as he was being rolled into the ER- the staff immediately treated him for the heart attack and inserted 2 stents. From there- they decided to give him a pacemaker because his heart had suffered a lot of damage from the initial attack and struggled on its own. They discharged him after 5 days. He went home for 2 nights and had another series’s of several small attacks. His wife contactEd Greenlee County EMTs  and this time- the ambulance was waiting for him at the park in Loma Linda and drove him straight to the Greenlee County Airport. He was flown back to TMC and they immediately stabilized him enough to prep him for a quadruple bypass open heart surgery. On October 5th they performed the surgery but encountered many issues during the second valve replacement. He was hooked up to a balloon pump and an ECMO machine to provide life support and stability. He was transferred to Banner Hospital in Phoenix and has been here since. The heart team has tried to provide us with options and opportunities as they present themselves and right now it’s to take him off the 2 machines and swap for 1 machine. The impella pump. This is a temporary solution to bridge to the next opportunity. That’s where we stand now. This donation money would be for any expenses incurred for his wife Vesta and/or his family.
