Witness Against Torture
Many of you already know that the 75-year-old white man who was assaulted by Buffalo police in full riot gear on Friday June 5th is long-time WAT member Martin Gugino. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and is apparently in serious but stable condition, but at this time we know very little beyond that. Two police officers have been charged with assault. Martin's attorney asks that people "respect his privacy during his recovery.”

All funds raised will be transferred directly to Martin’s personal paypal account and has been approved by his power of attorney and niece. The organizers of this campaign have been colleagues and friends with Martin for over 10years.
From Matt Daloisio, CO-founder of WAT & a friend of Martin:
I have known Martin for over a decade. He is a friend & co-conspirator. He is funny & gentle. His generosity of spirit is unsurpassed. He is also an older white man in America, and aware of the privileges that come with that. And he is now a victim of police violence.
Martin wouldn’t want any focus on himself, but he is my friend and I’m deeply concerned.
I have spent many hours over these last days in ‘virtual’ arraignment court in NYC as a public defender, I can assure you that what is unique about Martin’s experience is that he is white and what happened is on video, but the experience of police violence is not unique. It is foundational and it is experienced by Black people every damn day. Sometimes on camera. Oftentimes not.
“Listen to the rage. Feel the sorrow. This blaze lights the way to a brighter tomorrow.”
let it be true.
