Save Our family

Please help to keep Jose Martinez in the United States! Jose is a devoted husband, loving father hard working person who has lived in the U.S. for over 30 years. He is now facing the horrible possibility of potentially returning to Mexico against his will due to a mistake from his youth. Immigration Services took him from our home suddenly, on the evening of August fifteenth, resulting in our family's devastation. He is now being held at Kenosha Detention Center indefinitely, on the basis of a drug charge from 9 to 10 years ago (possession of a controlled substance). Jose has never again made a poor choice causing him to be incarcerated or ticketed. Since then we wed, welcomed three beautiful boys and he has been a full time employee at a steady job.

Prior to his arrest, we met with several Immigration attorneys regarding his residency and we were told that he was fine. Naturally, we felt blindsided when this all transpired. His mother, who is now a U.S. citizen, arrived to Waukegan, Illinois back in in 1983. From that time Jose grew up and completed all of his schooling here in Waukegan, Illinois. For eight years he has been employed by Johnson's Paving. He is, and has been, an upstanding member of the Waukegan community.

These past 6 weeks have been the most difficult and heartbreaking days of our lives. Jose is a devoted father who supports the boy's extracurricular activities, teaches them right from wrong and shows them so much love every day. We have been married for 21 years, have worked so hard to keep our family together and teach our boys to take the right path in life. In loosing Jose we have lost the rock of our family. To see my boys fear that there father may not come home breaks my heart everyday. Knowing how sad they are with each activity, event and milestone that is missed is almost too much to handle. We have lost our home without his income and I have had to apply for government assistance to get by during this trying time. Our savings is depleted and I have sold the possessions I could. At this time, we have moved in with my mother and we are just getting by.

I ask that you please donate what you can to help us pay for fees associated with getting Jose home. This money will go to attorney, bail and whatever other legal fees that may come are more than what I can afford. It is not easy to ask for help, but we are in a terrible situation. Please, please support getting Jose back and making our family whole again. We are so very grateful for every one of you and truly blessed to have you in our lives. Thank you in advance for your prayers and donations!

Sincerely,
Nilza Martinez
