Marties brain tumour fund

Our story:

Me and Martie have been together for 7 years now, it was at the beginning of our relationship at the age of 21 that Martie started feeling unwell with headaches and dizziness. After seeking medical advice he had a MRI scan which showed a tumour which was causing a blockage in the brain Martie had an operation shortly after the first MRI scan, during the operation a biopsy was taken of the tumour and a few weeks later he was sadly diagnosed with a rosette forming glioneuronal tumour that sits right on the brainstem.

If this wasn’t bad enough he was later told that the tumour was extremely rare and there have only been around 30 cases of it in the whole world doctors are unsure on the best treatment for this tumour as it’s so rare.

Over the last 7 years we have tried to push forward with our lives and have our 2 beautiful and amazing children lily who is 5 and Archie who is 2. Full well knowing that one day this tumour will have to be treated as would eventually cause problems, well that time has now come! We both work hard and are keen to carry on working for as long as possible to provide for our family and were lucky enough to buy our very own first home in 2016. Martie currently works at the Newquay search and rescue helicopter base and is especially eager to carry on this for as long as possible.

Last year we were devastated as after a few MRI scans they discovered that the tumor had grown and Marties symptoms although usually manageable has seen him hospitalised once and bed bound on others.
This tumour is now affecting his daily life affecting memory and simple everyday functions like problem solving plus the daily headaches, tiredness, lack of energy and others.

Sadly he was turned down for some financial support as was not seen eligible as he didn’t tick all the boxes. Still working and trying to make the most of a horrendous situation we’ve now received another blow an operation is definitely  Not an option due to where the tumour is located, as would cause Martie significant damage to vital parts of the brain they have said radiotherapy is a last resort and they want to try and prolong it for as long as possible as they have said Martie is still young and there unsure how it would react to him. So next month Martie will be starting chemotherapy, to try and slow the progress of this tumour.

I myself had leukaemia when I was younger and received chemotherapy so I am aware of the affects it has, we never thought well hoped we’d never be in this position as we’ve always given and not taken  but we’re  asking for some help now to try and raise some money through this uncertain time. Any money donated will be used to help with travelling costs, parking costs, bills and family time making the most of the time that we still have together to make some special memories . If enough money is raised then alternative treatment could become an option these are expensive treatments though sadly! Any donation no matter how small will be thanked with our love.
