Martha's Fight Against Lyme

Después de años de ser mal diagnosticada, nuestra tía finalmente ha encontrado lo que está mal y es una lucha que sabemos que va a conquistar, pero necesitamos su ayuda!

No estábamos realmente seguros de qué era la enfermedad de Lyme hasta que nos informaramos después de que nuestra tía fuera diagnosticada. Entonces ... ¿Qué es la enfermedad de Lyme?
         La enfermedad de Lyme es causada por una espiroqueta, una bacteria en forma de sacacorchos llamada Borrelia burgdorferi (una garrapata). Lyme se llama "El Gran Imitador", porque sus síntomas simulara muchas otras enfermedades, por eso tomó años para averiguar lo que estaba mal con ella. Puede afectar CUALQUIER órgano del cuerpo, incluyendo el cerebro y el sistema nervioso, los músculos y las articulaciones, y el corazón. Si se diagnostica en las primeras etapas, la enfermedad de Lyme puede curarse con antibióticos. Sin tratamiento, las complicaciones que implican las articulaciones, el corazón, y el sistema nervioso pueden ocurrir que es lo que le ha estado sucediendo a Martha.
          Lyme ha comenzado a afectar su sistema nervioso porque ha perdido sensibilidad en sus piernas y brazos, lo que hace imposible caminar. Se ha afectado su vida y ha tenido que dejar de trabajar por los efectos de esta enfermedad crónica.
          Sin trabajo, las facturas empiezan a amontonarse y ella necesita tratamientos para que empiece a sentirse mejor. Las compañías de seguros no cubren los tratamientos porque creen que "la enfermedad de Lyme es difícil de atrapar y fácil de curar". Ellos piensan que los síntomas sólo ocurren dentro de dos semanas de obtener poco, y que después de una ronda de tratamiento que mágicamente desaparecerá. Aunque esto puede ser el caso de algunas personas, las bacterias de Lyme pueden sobrevivir en el cuerpo mucho tiempo después de que el tratamiento se ha completado y ella ni siquiera ha conseguido el tratamiento así que imaginate lo que ha hecho a su pobre cuerpo durante los años! Lyme es una enfermedad tan horrible y todo lo que quiero es que mi divertida y energetica tia vuelva a ser ella misma de nuevo! After years of being misdiagnosed, our aunt has finally found what is wrong and it is a fight we know she will conquer but we need your help!

We were'nt really sure what lyme disease was until getting informed after our aunt got diagnosed. So....What is lyme disease?
Lyme disease is caused by a spirochete—a corkscrew-shaped bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi (a tick). Lyme is called “The Great Imitator,” because its symptoms mimic many other diseases, hence why it took years to figure out what was wrong with her. It can affect ANY organ of the body, including the brain and nervous system, muscles and joints, and the heart. If diagnosed in the early stages, Lyme disease can be cured with antibiotics. Without treatment, complications involving the joints, heart, and nervous system can occur which is what has been happening to Martha.
Lyme has started to affect her nervous system therefor she loses sensibility in her legs and arms, making it impossible to walk. It has affeted her everyday life and she has had to stop working because of the effects of this chronic disease.
Without work, the bills are starting to pile up and she needs treatments to get her to start feeling better. Insurance companies dont cover the treatments because they believe "Lyme disease is hard to catch and easy to cure." They think symptoms only occur within two weeks of getting bit, and that after one round of treatment it will magically dissapear. Although this may be the case for some people, Lyme bacteria can survive in the body long after treatment is completed AND she hasnt even gotten treatment so imagine what it has done to her poor body over the years! Lyme is such a horrible disease and all i want is for my funny, young spirited aunt to get back to being herself again! Any little bit of a donation will help towards her treatments, and personal bills while shes out of work so that she can get herself back into good health.
