Hello, firstly, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Holly and as I'm writing this, I have been dealing with a chronic illness for 8 months now. After I graduated college with a business degree; majoring in accounting, I started looking for work. A couple weeks into my search, I started experiencing pain in my throat and noticed a white film developing in the back of my throat. I quickly went to my primary care doctor who put me on a mild antibiotic hoping to clear it up. It didn't. He then suggested I go to a specialist. It took over a month to get an appointment with the local ENT. I visited the specialist in my area who put me on antibiotics and steroids and told me it should clear up in a week or two. It didn't. It got worse, much worse. I visited a second primary care physician, hoping to find some answers, but it ended with the same results. That's when I decided to go to the big city for help. By the time I found a specialist to actually help me, I could no longer eat solid food and had lost 40lbs. My ENT specialist scheduled a biopsy to figure out what was causing the chronic throat lesions and extreme pain. He discovered a bacteria eating away at my throat and nasal cavity, causing necrotic tissue. After the biopsy I was put on special antibiotics that should have healed my throat, but didn't. It took months to find doctors that were actually helping to heal me. Today I've lost 80lbs from not being able to eat very much. My ENT has fitted me with a PICC line (permanent IV) and is trying a new antibiotic that, both him, my PCP, and general surgeon believe will finally clear up the problem. I haven't been able to work during this time, I can hardly do housework because of the constant pain. This chronic illness has caused me to go into monstrous debt from being unable to work, medical bills, and normal bills piling up. I'm hitting rock bottom. If this new medication doesn't work, I will seek care at a Mayo Clinic down south and check myself into inpatient care. I cannot wait for the day this is finally over and I can actively live life again, not just watch others live it around me as I lay in bed, hoping the new medication works.
Thank you again for taking the time to read this, and thank you more for any way you are able to contribute.
