MARSH Opening 2019

Dear Collaborators past, present, and future:

Materializing & Activating Radical Social Habitus (MARSH) is a new life-art lab site, established to research and implement bio-cultural praxes. We are looking forward to operating locally as part of the Carondelet neighborhood of St. Louis and globally as part of transitional movements lead by artists, thinkers, activists, and social practitioners.

PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING WHAT YOU CAN TO HELP US OPEN THE SITE THIS SPRING (2019)! Our first public programs will include the Bioculturealities Practical Symposium and Performance Festival in June, 2019. Visit our website to find the Open Call and more information: www.marshlife-art.org

Over the last year, mother-daughter team Beth Neff and Esther Neff (alongside local contractors and volunteer laborers participating in #sweatequity projects such as MUSCULAR BONDING) have been restoring the 1850s mixed-use building at MARSH.

MARSH is home to a guest apartment (space for up to eight), a full-service licensed kitchen, a circa 1950s diner space, a woodshop/studio, several performance spaces (both indoors and out), and a constantly-evolving permaculture garden/grounds.

MARSH is designed to host performance projects, exhibitions, community events and gatherings, reciprocal systems, workshops, conferences, forums, symposia, and a wide variety of other creative and practical processes in the areas of food (production and distribution), energy, art, thought, collaboration, relations, and navigations of (cultural, political, geographic) locations and movements.

In JUNE of 2019 we will hold an opening festival entitled BIOCULTUREALITY at MARSH, inviting proposals for performances, actions, processes, and situations.

We are seeking funds for the following items and activities (or in-kind donations of any of these items):

Transportation, room, and board for participants in the Bioculturealities Practical Symposium;
Publicity and marketing for the Bioculturealities Practical Symposium;
Beds/mattresses/sheets/towels for guests;
Materials and perennial plants (fruit trees, berry plants, etc.);
Exterior storm/screen doors for the commercial kitchen and guest apartment;
Washing machine, dryer, and other appliances;
A new awning for the front outdoor space;
Building materials;
Interior and exterior paint;
Floor for the performance space;
Kitchen equipment;
Utilities;
Licensing and permit fees;
Program support.
