Marnier Brinson Foundation

Hello Everyone,

The story of cancer is a horrible one for anyone to face.  There are many loved ones and family members whose lives have been changed and even wrecked in many cases by this horrific disease.  The diagnosis of cancer has changed my family's story and history in a way I never imagined possible.  Two and half years ago, my 16 year old cousin Marnier had a small growth on her face right below her eye.  A visit to the doctor would change our lives forever.  A diagnosis none of us was prepared to hear.  It was cancer.  I can remember the day I heard the horrible news.  Everything went silent.  The air was sucked out of the room.  All the questions that come at once....What? How? Why?  I thought of her beautiful smile, warm personality.  She is just a child! My heart sank...ached.  Needless to say, this is every parents worst fear. ..a nightmare.

Marnier was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma.  Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of sarcoma. Sarcoma is cancer of soft tissue (such as muscle), connective tissue (such as tendon or cartilage), or bone. Rhabdomyosarcoma usually begins in muscles that are attached to bones and that help the body move.   Immediately following her diagnosis they began chemotherapy.  In most cases, the cause of rhabdomyosarcoma is not known. A sign of childhood rhabdomyosarcoma is a lump or swelling that keeps getting bigger.
Signs and symptoms may be caused by childhood rhabdomyosarcoma or by other conditions. The signs and symptoms that occur depend on where the cancer forms.  In Marnier's case, it is the eye.

To say that Marnier has been through a tough time is an understatement.  At a time when most sixteen year old kids are enjoying school, spending time with friend's and family, going on dates, Marnier has spent the better part of two years in a hospital.   She has gone through extensive treatment to include chemotherapy and radiation.  On August 31, 2018, she will undergo  a 10 hour surgery to remove her eye where the tumor is attached and located.

There's a quote that reads, "When someone has cancer, the whole family has cancer." That couldn't be more true.  Yet we remain as positive as possible.

Marnier will need follow up medical care for the foreseeable future.  Her parents have already incurred mounting medical bills.   My aunt had to quit her job to care for Mariner and my uncle has missed work on numerous occasions  to attend doctor's appointments.   He will also need to miss work for her upcoming surgery.

No child or person should have to endure what Marnier has.  She has shown us what true strength and courage is.  She is in the fight for her life and continues to amaze us with her grace, sense of humor, and her ability to smile during everyone of her procedures.

All money raised from this Gofundme will be used to pay for further treatment and ongoing expenses related to Marnier's fight against this horrible disease.  We are please asking for your donation to help us kick cancers butt.
