Marlowe Rose Johnson

Marlowe Johnson was born March 4th 2018. Marlowe is the 4th child born to DeAngelo and Rachel Johnson.  On May 11th Marlowe was admitted to the hospital for lack of weight gain, vomiting and jaundice. After a week in patient of poking and prodding, Marlowe was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia.
Biliary Atresia is when the liver has abnormal or missing bile ducts. In Marlowe's case her liver contains no bile ducts. Marlowe underwent a 6 hour surgery to create bile ducts in her liver by using parts of her intestines. This procedure is known as the Kasai procedure and while it is life saving during the early months of life, it is not a cure, it is temporary. Marlowe and Rachel spent the next 21 days in the hospital recovering from the surgery.
Marlowe is the happiest little girl and her smile lights up the room. Unfortunately Marlowe's condition is advancing faster than the doctors anticipated and the family is now starting the process to see if they are live donor matches.
Caring for their 4 children and managing  frequent MD appointments, medications and hospital stays, has started to take its toll on the family. Rachel has spent her time in the hospital with Marlowe while DeAngelo has been caring for their other children Gabby, Amayah, and Kai. They are not native to Massachusetts and have no family here to help care for their children, which has left them relying each other for the care of the children.
DeAngelo and Rachel Johnson are both US Army Veterans, DeAngelo served Active duty for 6 years and Rachel served 12 years active duty. They each served a tour overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
Funds raised to support the family will be spent on medical costs, bills, and day to day costs from lost wages.
