Dear Friends and Family,

The Story of Marley is a miracle of love who popped into my life, had kittens who enchanted everyone, almost died and Spoiler Alert: Marley Made It!!  We now need your help. The Full Story of how she came into my life is below and gives context to  this medical crisis and just how special she is as a reminder of love and goodness.

WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR CAT MARLEY:

Some of you may know that recently our cat Marley almost died. She was refusing food and occasionally vomiting. Something was obstructing her bowels. I was faced with the choice to let her die or live (with scary, expensive surgery).  The choice was obvious, but still a very hard one to make financially.  My little angel made it through the long surgery and it turns out that she had bits of foam and string stuck in her upper intestines. She is recovering from her surgery. Yesterday she got her stitches removed and she is still taking antibiotics. She is healing at her own pace.

The Vet's medical expenses put a toll on us financially.

We need your help. Any amount will help tremendously.

THE STORY:

How Marley Adopted Us, Tought Us about Love and Changed Our Lives Forever.

It all started on a road trip... the intolerable heat of summer in LA had me headed to cool Colorado to see family. Driving on the 15 with no cell service, meditating on a friend’s program called “Allowing Love”... she asked a very simple question: “Can you imagine that Love is just around the corner?” And suddenly, as the radio fuzzed indistinctly, I could imagine that love -- maybe not partnership, but love, kindness, and grace, the expansive heart opener -- was around the corner.

I begin crying, feeling this softening in my heart as the radio clarified itself into a song “…is this love? Is this love that I’m feeling?... We can share the shelter...” and now I really lose it. Full cry. Then I contentedly relax into the long drive ahead of me.

I pull into Barstow for a little treat, and as I’m getting back in my car and letting the heat of the car slip out, I feel eyes on me… and there - just around the corner of a car - comes a tiny cat.

Her eyes are locked on me as she struts towards my car, slips inside, and climbs on my lap, insisting I pet her. Makes a full loop once through the car and plops down on the backseat, like "Yep, I’m ready when you are!"

I’m flabbergasted... and again with the crying! LOVE had let itself right on in. I called my roommate Lucia and told her “I think we have a cat.” She’s super blissed out on some Carolyn Myss meditation and is all Yoda on me, like “Yeah we have been talking for two years about getting a cat and sometimes if you don’t take action, it takes action for you.” Now, did I mention that this tiny cat had the biggest pot belly ever!?! I was like whoa, either she has the worst case of worms ever, or...

PLOT TWIST: She’s PREGNANT?!?

So my skinny, gaunt, dehydrated, pregnant teen cat and I pull out of Barstow and hit the road. She begins howling as we go faster and, with each decibel, doubt doubled in my mind and I thought WTF am I doing? So I pulled off of road xyz and thought, do I turn around and return IT?? Saying IT inside my mind stopped me short. No, this is a she! and so I start to sing to her... yep, you guessed it... “is this love, is this love that I’m feeling.”  And I looked at her and gave her her name... Marley.  And she looked up at me and stopped crying and we headed on down the road towards our future, together.

Two weeks later, my closet in LA... Marley meowing at me and looking very confused, concerned, and with clear intent. I was to sit in the closet with her while this thing happened to her, the thing was birthing 5 kittens!!! Healthy, perfect, tiny kittens, 4 rowdy boys and one  calico girl( the boss of them all and the best climber!)  I had the best summer watching them grow up and helping them be brave, socialized kittens.  The best was finding their forever homes in the care of close friends. Marley has been a gift that keeps giving.

Of course, Lucia kept the most mischievous boy, and named him Rogelio.

BOTTOM LINE:

I have now decided that she may just live in a giant plastic bubble... just kidding -- now she has 18 more good years of making trouble and being a messenger of love and good in my life. Would appreciate any and all help, no contribution is too small!
