Marla Pryor's Get Well Fund

On Saturday the 14th of October, Marla was volunteering at Magee hospital as a “cuddler” working with the opiate addicted babies, and helping them through their withdrawals.. she has always loved all kids and was a huge part in raising all of her nephews, and nieces, as well as her number one child of course her daughter, Marissa. As she was coming Home from volunteering she was having some bad stomach pains, and not able to breathe well.. with the help of God she made it from the bus all the way to her front door where she came rushing in to her sister Donna, saying she really couldn’t breathe now and started to vomit. Donna touched her and felt that she was incredibly clammy and sweating. She immediately decided to dial 911 and not take any chances. She was rushed to the hospital and our lives as we knew them changed from that point on. She was told that she had an AORTIC DISSECTION and that her Aorta had detached from her heart causing no blood flow to her extremities for minutes, she then noticed that she could not feel her feet and they said that she had to make a life saving decision and choose to have open heart surgery, or she would have passed away within a few hours. Thinking about her daughter and her family first as she always has, she chose to have the open heart surgery to repair her aorta immediately..

It has since been a few days shy of a week and she has made tremendous Progress! We have since learned that besides her aorta rupturing she also had a few small strokes on both sides of her brain. Anyone that knows Marla, knows that she is strong and determined and will get through whatever life hands her and she is still proving that! Within just 5 days of surgery she has already started to breathe on her own again, she is putting together words and making small sentences, and has even started moving both arms!!

She still cannot move her legs but during physical therapy she said that they hurt! Which is great that she has feeling, considering the surgeon said she wouldn’t walk again.

She is a child of god and it is going to be a very very hard, and long journey to get her back where she needs to be, that is why we are making this go fund me account to help with her recovery, she is going to need months and months of rehab, in home care and even medical supplies and not everything is covered under insurance unfortunately.

Also her daughter Marissa is away at school at Penn State Harrisburg and will need to travel back and forth from school to Pittsburgh to visit her mother during her recovery, and it can get very expensive doing so. She is a single mother and it has always been just her and her daughter together, Marissa would like to stay in school for her mother and continue to make her proud!

Marla is also going to be out of work for an unknown length of time and will lose 20% of her income while on disability.

Marla is normally not the type of person to ask for help. She is very prideful so as her caregivers and family we ask for anyone who knows Marla and would like to help to donate anything you can, and please share this with anyone you may know that can help, as she would do the same for anyone she loves..
