I am Scott Rathburn. I am in the Army and I am currently stationed on Fort Bragg, NC. Hopefully you have watched the Mark Smith Project video on YouTube and/or Facebook. It is obviously heartbreaking what Mark has gone through, but we have to address the true root of the incident; misguided youth. We are raising money for organizations in Philadelphia that support youth, education, and parents (Particularly single parents). Funds will also be donated to JEVS Human Services who provide care and assistance for Mark. The list of organizations we are donating to are listed below. I hope we raise enough money that we can add more organizations to the list.

- Philadelphia Student Union
- Youth Action Team
- The Fund For the School District of Philadelphia
I have no personal relationship with these organizations. I have never even been to Philadelphia. I stated in the video that we are connected now more than ever and we should use that for good. I researched these organizations online and as I said before I hope to add more.
I do not intend to just throw copious amounts of cash at these organizations. Before donating the money I will have each organization provide a detailed plan on how the funds will be spent. I will then upload the plans to the Mark Smith Project Facebook page so everyone is kept in the loop and donors know their money went to good use.
Once I have all of the organization's plans uploaded I will request a three day pass from my unit. Once my pass is granted by my commander I will rent a car (my personal car is old and can't be trusted for a long distance trip) because it would be cheaper than flying and then drive to Philadelphia. I will record donating the money and upload it to Facebook. I will verify and document on the Mark Smith Project Facebook page that all the checks add up to the total amount of money raised (after gofundme takes their cut).
We should not let Mark's horrible experience manifest into nothing. In honor of Mark, let's use this moment to make the world a better place.
