Mark Yoder passes away 12/31/17, early in the morning. This memorial is to help with funeral home expenses, celebration of life service expenses, outstanding medical expenses and sarcoidosis research.
Mark was my brother. He was a smart, funny, kind man. He easily made friends and and accepted people as they were. He was a gentle soul who rarely said anything bad about anyone. In the family he was the peacemaker.
He battled sarcoidosis, an autoimune disease that attacks different organs and scars the tissue. He had been living with the disease for many years. Two years ago Mark got very sick and was hospitalized. He was unable to return to work. Sarcoidosis had damaged his lungs and heart. He and my parents started frequent trips to Indianapolis for treatment of sarcoidosis with specialists.
In December of 2016 during a routine visit to the specialists in Indianapolis Mark was found to be very ill and spent 5 days in the ICU at Methodist hospital. At this time a double lung transplant was recommended.
We worked through the process of testing and procedures that needed to be done before transplant. In September 2017 the transplant team in Indianapolis determined that Mark's heart had been damaged to the point that he would need a heart and double lung transplant. Mark was referred to Cleveland Clinic.
Due to deterioriating health and other issues Mark never made it to the Cleveland clinic.
Throughout his illness Mark never complained. He worked hard to keep what health he could and did all the things requested by the doctors.
Over the past few months his decline in health was noticable and all his siblings gathered in Goshen for the holidays. It was a great time of togetherness.
We are all sad that our next family gathering is so quick and for Mark, our brother's death.
