I've learned over the last 6 years that when I help someone else my life seems to be better. Today, there are so many people in the world who need help, but I would like you to take a few moments to consider helping my friend Mark. Mark and I grew up on Rivenwood Road together; I have known him since I was five. While I haven't talked to Mark in a gazillion years, we started talking again a few weeks back. I was moved by his struggle with cancer, and I have learned so much more about what's going on in his life.
These are the challenges Mark is facing:
- Mark has had to take an extended unpaid leave from his job. His employer did not cover short and/or long-term disability benefits.
- He has $28,000 in medical debt already.
- He needs help paying for co-pays and coinsurance, assistance getting necessary medical appointments, and support in covering daily living expenses, rent, and utilities.
- He has applied for a compassionate allowance SSI with social security, as well as SSDI. But SSDI takes 5 months before the first benefit check will be issued.
We are trying to raise at least $19,500.00 to cover expenses not paid for and not written off by the providers (Methodist Hospital in the Houston metropolitan area has agreed to waive any co-pays and coinsurance for all treatment that is provided in their facilities.). However, this does not include physician's charges, outside imagining, transportation costs, and all other non-hospital related expenses. Anything we raise in excess of that goal will go towards Mark's existing medical debt.
Please give in this time of need. I want Mark to say, "Neither cancer nor corona got me!"
