Help Mark Fight Rare Form of Leukemia

Donation protected
On July 20th Mark Dundas was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia that less than 1% of patients have. Mark is now being treated with an aggressive course of chemotherapy. He moved back to his hometown of Rochester, NY for this treatment where he has a support network including his mother and sister.   He was admitted the week of August 5th for in-patient chemo, and is now undergoing one month of intensive 24/7 chemotherapy. This will be followed by a short time at home (NY) and then back to the hospital for more treatments.

As a seasonal employee of Glacier National Park, his employment and income ended on October 11. Depending on his strength and recovery it is uncertain at this time if Mark will be able to return to either his summer or winter seasonal jobs. Every dollar raised will be going straight to Mark to help him with mounting medical costs, house payments, and bills.  Every little bit helps, be it $1 or $100.

Throughout his life and career, Mark has been an avid outdoor recreationalist and professional.  He has dedicated himself to assuring that other outdoor enthusiasts enjoy their outdoor opportunities safely.  From building and maintaining miles of trail in Glacier National Park, studying avalanche potential above the railroad and for winter recreationists on the Flathead National Forest, to helping those injured or lost on Big Mountain during his many years as a ski patroller. It has been his focus to assure that folks enjoy themselves, enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and get home safely to their families.

Now it’s our turn to assure that Mark gets home to his family, and that includes us, his extended family of coworkers at Glacier National Park, the Flathead National Forest, the Flathead Avalanche Center, BNSF railroad and Whitefish Mountain Resort.

We hosted a fundraiser at Montana Raft/Glacier Guides in West Glacier on September 19th, which kicked off our year of support for Mark!    It was an amazing success.  As a community, we raised about $20,000 that night! Live music was provided by the Belton Blues Band, a live auction was conduced by Mark Vessar, and a silent auction and raffle of great donations took place.  Many thanks to all the vendors and community members who have donated a great variety of gift certificates, bottles, handicrafts, professional services, overnight stays in great places, outdoor adventures as well as food and beverages and more to this auction.  We couldn't have done it without you!   Please visit www.markdundas.home.blog for a complete list of donors and participants.

We will follow with continued crowd-sourced fundraising, and support through cards and letters.  Since he’s in Rochester, NY, for treatment, he’s separated from the Flathead/Glacier community that he so loves.  So we need to keep him in our thoughts as this winter approaches.  Please continue to donate and spread the word.  Bills are mounting and help in needed.

He’s in this for the long haul so let’s do what Mark would do and lace up our boots and Get 'er done!
