In Loving memory of Mark Driscoll and Family
Donation protected
Hello, I am writing this on behalf of my cousin and her son who just lost her husband Mark Driscoll February 8th.
In April of 2022 Mark was admitted to the hospital due to a build up of bacteria in his heart, at that time Mark received open heart surgery to place a mechanical valve. We as a family thought the battle was won, he left the hospital healthy and rearing to get back to work and support his wife and son.
January 25th 2023 - Mark was brought to Urgent Care - with symptoms of Pneumonia and the flu. An ambulance was called because his oxygen was becoming unstable. Mark was transported from urgent care to South Shore Hospital, a diagnosis of flu and bilateral pneumonia were confirmed. During his stay at the hospital a large vegetation of bacteria was found on his heart valve and large amounts of fluid started to accumulate in his lungs and heart.
January 28th - complications arose and it was necessary Mark be intubated and heavily sedated due to both blood pressure and oxygen rapidly declining. The evening of the 28th Mark was transported to Beth Israel.
At Beth Israel, through more testing and evaluation, it was found that the bacteria in Mark's heart had now spread to his brain. The build up of bacteria caused the mechanical valve that was previously placed, to stop working.
Overnight February 2nd into the early morning hours of the 3rd Mark's family made the life sustaining, last medical effort of placing Mark on ECMO (this maintains blood flow to the body, heart and brain). While in transport to the ECMO procedure Mark's heart stopped - CPR was performed on him for 20 - 25 minutes, Mark was able to get the procedure, but remained in critical care. Mark's Heart, liver and kidneys all sustained damage due to the trauma endured.
As a family we were waiting to establish his neurological status.
Unfortunately, on the morning of February 8th at 6:02am Mark's body could no longer endure the fight.
Rest in the sweetest peace Mark, We love you!
Mark leaves behind his wife and a 10 year old son Logan. His son was his entire world, everything Mark did was for his son Logan. No decision was made without the thought of Logans wellbeing. Mark was a great example of a loving and devoted father. His love was sacrificial, patient, kind, humble, honest, forgiving, faithful, and selfless. For Logan it was constant and unchanging.
I am asking that you support his son and wife during this unprecedented time. As his wife continues to maintain their home and life expenses.
I am writing this GoFundMe because I feel it is important to help those in need, especially family. Find it in your heart to donate.
