Mark DeGroft Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Wednesday, Sept. 12, Mark DeGroft was rushed to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center by ambulance with flu-like symptoms from what turned out to be a severe infection. His medical team concluded that he was experiencing Sepsis with DIC.

A note from Cindy:
This is the hardest thing I have ever had to say. Mark has been in critical care for a week, very sudden onset, he has responded to treatment, though the severity of his body's natural defenses, has left his hands, and feet in jeopardy. I know many of you love Mark, demonstrated by the incredible response of love, support, and prayers, from our circle of musicians, medical community, and friends, and family. He could use all the loving light you can shine his way right now. A few years back, when I needed help, a wise friend told me me courage was being brave in the face of danger, valour is courage in the face of the unknown. Thank you all for the many kindnesses, support, love, and prayers.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body's response to infection causes injury to its own tissues and organs. Common signs and symptoms include fever, increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, and confusion. Additionally, complications resulting from DIC has put him at risk for loss of tissue on his hands, feet, and face.

After 1 week in the ICU at Rogue, Mark was moved to Ashland Hospital where he would have access to treatment in the hyperbaric chamber for wound care in hope of expediting his recovery.

At this time the length of his recovery is unknown.

Medical hardship is a difficult burden for any family. Losing hours at work can have a detrimental impact on sustaining a household. So many of you have poured your love on the situation with hot meals, relationship, prayers, company for Cuba and well wishes. Some of you  may not know, Mark & Cindy are also the caregivers for Cindy's mom who suffers from dementia and has been living with them.

We are all forever grateful for your love and support during this time. So many of you have asked how you can help?

Right now Mark, Cindy, & Ellie need your continued prayers and well wishes.

If you feel called upon to give beyond this and have the means to contribute, I know they will be forever grateful. I also know they would never ask which is why I am writing to you here.

Mark is my beloved Uncle and I know he is a beloved someone to you! If you know him, you know all the things that are special about him. In the photo above, you may notice his stripy socks, those are socks that I gave him one year. He always wears these socks when he knows he is going to have the happiest of days - like he is in this picture. He is happiest when he is spending time with all of you, laughing, and playing music, and most of all next to Cindy, whose voice carries like the angels who fly among us.

I love this snippet I found, written by a wonderful soul at St. Claire Productions....

St. Clair Productions:
Mark & Cindy DeGroft have been playing music together for 30 plus years. An interesting journey of styles & influences has culminated in a recent recording project of original material. Their music has roots in rock, folk, eblues, classical & Americana and is uniquely their own. Mark is one of the boys to talk Guitar with if you’re shopping Cripple Creek Music in Ashland; Cindy is a volunteer host for Jefferson Public Radio’s Folk Show on Sunday nights. They are two halves of the same tune.

Because of his vulnerability Mark is not allowed to have visitors at this time. Please share well wishes or fond memories below that Cindy and Ellie can share with him. Cards, emails to Cindy, or hilarious and cute YouTube videos are also appreciated.

We humbly thank you for helping us support Mark, Cindy & Ellie through this time so they can focus on his care and please continue to hope for a full recovery.
