Have you seen Mark running or riding the streets of our beautiful Brookwater lately?  No, not recently.  Why?
Five weeks ago, the lives of Mark and Sue were changed irrevocably.
After an early Saturday morning bike ride to Yamanto with other club members, followed by a 10 kilometre run through Brookwater, Springfield and Augustine Heights, Mark returned home and suffered a major stroke, which has resulted in loss of movement in his right side, including sight and speech.
After returning home from work, Sue found Mark unconscious on the bathroom floor, where he had been for almost 6 hours.  Upon the arrival of the ambulance, paramedics spent another hour trying to stabilize Mark to enable transportation to the hospital. Then began the fight of his life.
First was a craniotomy (which involves removal of part of the skull to allow swelling and release pressure on the brain) to save Mark’s life.
Second was to get through critical healing time in the ICU at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane.
Presently Mark is in the rehabilitation unit with specialists helping him every minute of every day, to help him improve function, if possible, due to severe impairment.
Sue, their daughter, and son-in-law have been at Mark’s bedside every minute of the day.
Mark and Sue are very appreciative of the help they have received in the form of prayers, thoughts and wishes, meals delivered and assistance in the form of lawn mowing, dog sitting and feeding.  They also want to thank their neighbours’ for their understanding during this difficult time.
Sue has only been able to return to her job for a few hours during the week, so she can spend the rest of the day and well into the night with Mark at the hospital.  This means their income has substantially reduced and all their leave entitlements have been exhausted.
Mark needs your help whilst he embarks on this emotional and difficult journey.  Please help me to assist Mark in any and every way that we can.
