Hello Friends, Coworkers, and Family,
Back in September 2016, our beloved, very talented, and MVP graphic designer, Marj, got into a minor car accident. She ended up being ok, but after an MRI was ordered, doctors found a benign tumor located on her spinal cord at the brain stem.
In October 2016, Marj underwent surgery to remove the brain tumor. The tumor was completely removed, but there were serious complications with the surgery. On three separate occasions, Marjorie had to be transported by ambulance to two different hospitals for urgent medical intervention. In November, Marjorie needed a second surgery to address all the complications and setbacks from the first surgery. By late-November, Marj was able to come home, but still required nurse visits, physical and occupational therapy. After that – more complications arose. In March, Marj required a third surgery. This surgery was successful but left her still unable to do most things, including work, and her jewelry. Even physical therapy could not be done until the end of May.
Marj works in the Commercial Buildings Research Group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. After many months of medical battles, she is finally getting back to her cheerful, bright self and has turned a corner in a positive direction for her health. However, she is still on disability leave and has a long road to travel with physical therapy to gain mobility in her neck and avoid further surgeries. She’s also facing mounting healthcare burdens and loss of income.
Marj’s NREL family has decided to start this fundraising campaign to provide financial help during her recovery time. If you know Marj, she is the most positive, creative, caring person – always sharing her bright smile and supportive words. She has a very unique ability to transform our “nerd-speak” into elegant, fun, simple graphical expressions that can be shared with the nation and the world. We wouldn’t be a team without her!
