Wenn man dieses strahlende Lachen sieht, kann man sich nur schwer vorstellen, das dieser kleine Strahlemann schon sehr bald seine letzte Reise antreten muss...aber fangen wir mal ganz von vorne an. Da, wo Marius's unfassbare Reise angefangen hat.
Im Dezember 2015 kam heraus, das in Marius's Bauch ein Monster eingezogen war, ein Monster, welches Erwachsenen Krebs und Ärzte es Multifokales Hepatoplastom nennen. Viele Reisen von Klinik zu Klinik folgten. Aber egal wie dreckig es Marius ging, er verlor nie sein Lächeln. Unzählbare Chemo-Behandlungen, Untersuchungen und Operationen musste Marius über sich ergehen lassen und trotz allem war er immer wie ein kleines Stehauf-Männchen. Denn egal wie schwer die Behandlung war, sein freches Lachen blieb sein ständiger Begleiter und meist war er gegen alle Erwartungen kurz nach jedem Eingriff wieder Fit genug, um zu Spielen. Denn das liebt er über alles.
In 2016 erfolgte eine schwere Operation in München, in der der Tumor und ein Teil der Leber entfernt wurde. Und auch hier überraschte Marius alle, indem er wenige Tage danach wieder so Fit war, das er mit Mühe und Not im Bett gehalten werden konnte.
Da seine Leber jedoch durch alle Behandlungen so beschädigt war, musste Marius auf die Warteliste für eine Lebertransplantation. So landete Marius auf der Transplantationsliste und als alle die Hoffnung, noch rechtzeitig eine passende Leber für Marius zu bekommen, schon fast aufgegeben hatten und die Ärzte verwundert waren, das Marius so ein Durchhaltevermögen hatte, kam in Mai 2017 der Anruf, das eine passende Leber für Marius gefunden wurde. Die Reise ging also zur Klinik in Hannover und nach einer zwölfstündigen Operation ging man davon aus, das Marius einige Wochen auf der Intensivstation verbringen sollte. Aber bereits nach wenigen Tage war Marius so Fit, das er auf eine normale Station konnte und nach nur 3 Wochen wurde er bereits entlassen, da er Top Fit und voller Spieldrang war.
Jetzt konnte das wahre Leben endlich anfangen für Marius und so war er dann auch überglücklich, endlich auch den Kindergarten besuchen zu können, wie normale Kinder eben. Marius war Topfit und die regelmäßigen Kontrollen im Krankenhaus fand er dann auch nur toll, wenn er dann ins Krankenhaus Spielzimmer gehen konnte.
Bis in Dezember 2017 auf einmal wieder Knoten im kleinen Körper zu sehen waren und Marius erneut nach Hannover reisen musste. Hier wurde nach weiteren Untersuchungen dann festgestellt, das der Krebs leider zurück ist und zwar so, das eine Operation nicht mehr möglich ist. So wurde kurz vor Weihnachten und kurz vor seinem 5. Geburtstag jede Hoffnung auf Heilung genommen und es hieß, man geht davon aus, das er maximal noch 3 Monate zu Leben hätte.
Aber Marius kämpfte weiter und jeder Ausflug und jede Reise, die er mit seine Familie unternahm, zauberte ein herrlich freches Strahlen auf sein Gesicht. Gegen alle Erwartungen erlebte Marius strahlend seinen 6. Geburtstag und jeder hatte die Hoffnung, das Marius wie durch ein Wunder weiter leben könnte. Aber leider wächst das Monster in seinem Bauch seit Wochen so wahnsinnig schnell, das der Schmerz ohne Palliativ Team nicht mehr auszuhalten ist und verliert der kleine Strahlemann sein Lachen und sogar die Lust am spielen ist ihm bereits vergangen.
Seine letzte Reise steht also unmittelbar bevor. Marius liebt es zu reisen, zu fliegen und er liebt die Berge.
Reisen kann er jedoch in seiner jetzigen Situation nicht mehr und deshalb wünschen sich seine Eltern, das Marius seine Beerdigung gleichzeitig seine letzte große Reise und Flug sein wird. Aber dafür wird dringend Geld benötigt. Geld was die Familie Aufgrund des langen Kampfes gegen den Krebs und die unzähligen Kosten die damit verbunden sind, leider nicht hat. Deshalb sammeln wir jetzt Geld für Marius, damit wir Marius seine letzte Reise so gestalten können, das er uns definitiv sein wunderbares Grinsen gegeben hätte.

Looking at the sweet smile that lights up his entire face, it is hard to fathom that this happy little six-year-old is taking the last steps of his journey here on Earth. But here we are and although this story doesn’t have a happy ending, it is a story about strength, courage, resilience and faith and that is something we all need to hear at any time and at any point of our lives and it is something to be treasured, rewarded and be humbled by. So let me share Marius’ story with you from the beginning and please find it in your hearts (and pockets) to do something for Marius today. Let’s make his last journey one filled with love and peace …
In December 2015 a ‘monster’ growing inside Marius’ stomach was discovered; a monster which us grown-ups call multifocal Hepatoblastoma, an uncommon malignant liver cancer predominantly found in infants and young children. His day to day routine soon changed and he spent his time traveling from clinic to clinic for further tests being prodded and probed by many strangers in white coats. But throughout this ordeal, he never lost that cute smile. Through countless chemotherapy treatments, invasive medical examinations and operations he got back up every time with a smile on his face. That smile stayed with him through everything he endured and gave him strength. Whatever challenge he faced he always bounced back quickly, beyond expectations, and he could return to playing with his toys because that’s what he loves to do the most.
In 2016 Marius survived an incredibly difficult surgery in Munich (430 km away) where the tumor and part of his liver were removed. And once again, Marius surprised everyone by bouncing back just a few days later.
Because Marius’ liver had undergone major surgeries and treatments, it was heavily damaged and no longer functioning as it should be so Marius was placed on a donor waiting list for a liver transplant. Months passed by and just when everyone was losing hope of finding a new liver, then came that precious phone call in May 2017 to announce a liver had been found and was a match. The doctors were marveled at how strong Marius had been to make it this far and off he went to Hannover this time (380 km away) for a liver transplant operation that took 12 pain-staking complex hours to perform.
Marius should have spent numerous weeks in the intensive care unit in recovery but once again, surpassed all expectations and in just a few days made great progress in leaps and bounds, so much so, that he was allowed to recover on a normal ward and just 3 weeks later was back to health and allowed to go home to continue playing with his favourite toys.
Now his life could actually start. He was overjoyed and finally able to go to Kindergarten like normal children. He could catch up on the years lost and make friends. Marius was fit and healthy and doing well. He only had to go back to hospital for regular checks and monitoring, which he only tolerated because they had a play room which he loved and where he spent most of his visits.
Everything was fine and life was starting to adjust to a degree of normality when in December 2017 at another routine checkup, small nodules and lumps were discovered in his body. Marius was sent back to Hannover for a follow up. After more intensive examinations and right before Christmas and his 5th birthday, the thing they had dreaded to hear was back. The cancer had returned and so aggressively that the specialists said surgery was no longer an option. They gave Marius 3 months to live.
But Marius was reluctant to give up. He wasn’t going to let the ‘monster’ in his tummy win. He battled through and went on trips and outings with his family. He wore that smile on his face, almost like an armour, and defied anyone to take it away from him. He outlived his prognosis and made his 6th birthday. Doctors were surprised and couldn’t explain it, and Marius gave everyone hope that maybe a miracle would happen and he would once again beat the cancer.
But this hope was sadly crushed when the ‘monster’ in his tummy starting growing at an alarming rate causing Marius incredible pain.
Over the past few weeks Marius has been rapidly deteriorating and now he cannot get through a day without being heavily medicated and is in hospice care.
Marius no longer smiles. His smile has sadly left us. And his love of playing has slowly diminished. He no longer wants to play. Now he fights to make it through just one more day.
It won’t be long and his last journey to the Pearl Gates awaits. Marius loves to travel, to fly and he loves the mountains. He isn’t in a condition to travel but his parents want to make his last journey; the funeral and their final goodbyes, a memorable heartfelt one.
Due to financially crippling hospital bills and hospice care in the fight against this cancer his family do not have enough to give their son the funeral they want for him. They desperately need our help.
Marius gave us so much just in his smile and his resilience, his strength and determination. Such a small boy radiated such a huge amount of love and hope that we want to give that back to him in making his last journey really special.
