GOOD NEWS!!!
Marissa is waiting for her March 27th surgery!! Yes, all is lined up to have her surgery! Nothing stopping them now!!! Although, it’s a scary, demanding time for the family they are all in and ready to take it on!! They are so thankful for the generous donations which will make this all a little easier to bear. Please keep Marissa in your thoughts and prayers. Expect to see updates as the surgery comes close, during and after.
OCTOBER 18, 2017 UPDATE.....
Unfortunately Marissa was turned away from her surgery date due to insurance problems and paperwork not done in a timely manner. Marissa was ready and bravely awaiting her surgery. All were so disappointed. Amber & Mike are committed to having this surgery done for their daughter. They told me they will keep fighting until the surgery is approved. I know they have spent many frustrating hours on the phone already!!! They also have not used any of the funds that many kindly have donated on Marissa’s medical & travel expenses and won’t until the surgery is once again in place. This journey is not over!!! MARISSA needs this surgery!! We will keep you posted!! But in this waiting time, Marissa continues her dream to become an astronaut!!!

MARISSA DOESCHER IS A SMART, KIND AND MOTIVATED 9 YEAR OLD WHO ATTENDS THE SCIENCE ACADEMY IN CHINESE CAMP. SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF AMBER & MIKE DOESCHER, GRANDAUGHTER OF JANETTE & GARY WILSON AND BILL & ALICE DOESCHER: ALL OF TUOLUMNE COUNTY.
MARISSA , AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, HAS CEREBRAL PALSEY. SHE DOESN'T ACT LIKE THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG BECAUSE SHE KEEPS GOING AND THRIVES ON HER FAMILIES LOVE AND CARE WHICH INCLUDES "NO BABYING".
AT THIS TIME IN HER LIFE THERE IS A MEDICAL PROCEDURE CALLED DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION
THAT HOPEFULLY WILL INCREASE HER ABILITY TO MOVE AROUND, SPEAK MORE FLUENTLY AND BE INDEPENDENT. THAT IS SO IMPORTANT TO HER EVEN AS A 9 YEAR OLD! AS AN EXAMPLE, MARISSA FALLS UP TO 25 TIMES A DAY WHICH HAS BECOME A MAJOR SETBACK IN HER EVERYDAY LIFE. AT PRESENT SHE HAS TROUBLE COMMUNICATING VERBALLY AND THIS BRAIN SURGERY COULD MAKE HER SPEAK MORE FLUENTLY SO SHE COULD EFEECTIVELY EXPRESS HERSELF. THESE IMPROVEMENTS COULD BE LIFE CHANGING AND WOULD HELP HER ATTAIN HER DREAMS FOR LIFE.
SHE WANTS TO BE AN ASTRONAUNT!!!!!
HER SURGERY AT UCSF (UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT SAN FRANCISCO, BENEIOFF CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL) IS SET FOR OCTOBER 17TH AND IS CURRENTLY AT THE APPEALS STAGE WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE IS FAITH THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY OR OTHER WILL COME THROUGH. HOWEVER, THE FAMILY WILL BE TRAVELING SAN FRANCISCO WHICH WILL MEAN GAS, LODGING AND MEAL EXPENSES SO THAT THEY CAN BE WITH MARISSA DURING HER SURGERY AND HOSPITAL STAY. MARISSA'S SURGERY ALSO REQUIRES A 12 MONTH COMMITMENT FOR REGULAR VISITS TO UCSF.
THE DOESCHER AND WILSON FAMILIES ARE INVOLVED IN COUNTLESS CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY. AMBER IS ONE OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF BIG DREAMS UNIVERSALLY ACCESSIBLE PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS. THEY ARE GOOD FRIENDS TO MANY AND WONDERFUL SUPPORTERS OF OUR COMMUNITY. I AM ASKING ON BEHALF OF THE DOESCHER/WILSON FAMILIES TO SUPPORT THEM AT THIS TIME, BOTH EMOTIONALLY AND FINANCIALLY, SO THAT THIS JOURNEY WILL MOVE SMOOTHLY AND HELP ALLEVIATE SOME OF THE STRESS DURING THIS TIME.
