My sister Mariposa Champion (Mari) 22, was In a car accident and ejected from the vehicle on June 6th outside of Platteville Colorado. She works as a forklift operator as well as a waitress and aspiring bikini bodybuilder in Greeley, CO.
She was airlifted to the the nearest hospital, where the doctors concluded that she has a brain bleed, a skull fracture that goes down to her spinal cord that broke her neck, as well as her her lower back. She also sustained a broken shoulder blade, ribs, solid swelling of clotted blood that is crushing her windpipe so badly that they had to intubate her so she could breath properly. Mari's upper lip on the inside of her mouth tore away from her skull as well as having punctures and tears on her face when she landed on a barb wire fence. She was emitted to Surgical I.C.U where once she was stable two days later they fused her spine and lower back in hopes that she wouldn't become paralyzed. That surgery was successful and she can move her legs, feet, arms and hands but she will have to continue to have surgeries later on to maintain the hard wear that is holding her together. A week after that she had to have a second surgery to have a tracheotomy to help her breath because she stared to develope pneunia from the intubation as well as a feeding tube placed into her stomach. Almost two weeks later and she is still in the I.C.U. She is going to have a long recovery in the hospital as well as a rehabilitation facility where she will have to rebuild her body strength. We do not know when she will be able to come home yet.
The projected cost of her medical bills are extremely high. For example the cost alone of her of being airlifted to the hospital is nearly $50k.
