My name is Patrick, and I worked with Mario for about a year at the Lucky Pelican Bistro. Mario and I worked closely together, and got to know each other very well. On Thursday, July 9, 2020, Mario passed away after testing positive for COVID-19. Mario's passing was a shock to everyone because it happened so fast, and the fact he was young in his mid-30's.
Everyone that got a chance to know Mario liked him. Mario was a hardworking father, that worked several jobs, including owning and operating his own food truck on the weekends. Mario worked hard for his kids, and would talk about how much they motivated him. Besides being a hardworking father, Mario also had an amazing sense of humor that was a great combination of a dry sense of humor and dad joke's. He loved to find ways to include his name into his joke's. Everyday before he left work, he would always say, "See you toMARIO!" Another staff member he worked with at the Lucky Pelican, always loved when Mario would come up and say, "It's a me, Mario!" the same way the Nintendo Super Mario is known for.
Mario was a caring man that was always willing to help others. It was obvious he enjoyed making other's happy. Whenever he had food left over from his food truck on Sunday's he would bring it into work on Monday's and make a large staff meal for everyone. While everyone devoured his delicious food, Mario would be standing there with a big smile on his face, and pride that he was able to make some many people happy with his food. He was a great chef.
We are asking for donations for his kids and family. Besides his loving presence, his family will be impacted by his loss financially. Mario would work 2-3 jobs to help provide for his kids. We understand these are hard times for everyone, so if you are unable to donate, please help share this page so many others can help Mario's family. All of the funds will be given to Mario's mother, so she can distribute the funds to his kids.
