Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this. My mom Marina Landa has been a single mother since my brother was a few months old and he is now 26 years old. My mother is the most loving, caring person I know. She puts everyone else first before herself. My brother and I know she’s the best mother that god could have given us.
My mom has always been a healthy strong woman. This is why this took us by surprise. On December 22nd, 2022 my mom had shortness of breath and we took her to the ER. Later that day the nurses told us that she had come out positive for Covid and had isolated her. Once she was discharged she was still isolated at home, until she came out negative at the beginning of January 2023. Everything was going well in her recovery except that she still felt a bit weak and had a cough. Fast forward to the end of January, my mom had shortness of breath and we took her to the ER once again. This time they completely isolated her, because the doctors thought she had tuberculosis. During her stay at the hospital (5 days), they did a lot of tests; blood work, ct scan, biopsy, etc. After the biopsy, she was discharged later that day. A few days went by and on February 3rd, 2023 my mom received a phone call that would change our lives forever. The doctor told her that she had Cancer.
Two weeks after receiving the news. She had her 1st appointment with one of the oncologists. The doctor told us my mom had Sage 4 Lung Cancer. My mom has never smoked in her life so this was a shock to us. During this visit, the doctor told us that they were doing tests to see if she was compatible with taking oral medication rather than chemo iv. A whole month went by and her results were still not in. On March 11th, my mom had shortness of breath and was rushed to the ER. Once she was there the oncologist decided it was best to give her a cycle of chemo; since her results were not in yet. the doctors decided this was the best decision at the time to help her lungs function a little better. My mom was discharged 5 days after her cycle of chemo iv.
Fast forward to the present time, the oncologist told us that she is compatible with taking an oral medication, instead of chemo iv. Which has us very happy and optimistic. But unfortunately, this medication costs a lot of money. The bad thing is that my mom does not have insurance. I already filled out the paperwork to see if she qualifies for medical. In the hope to give a copayment and worst case scenario, we would have to finance the medication. My mom has to take this medication for an infinite time. We are asking for your help. Whatever you can donate is deeply appreciated and if you cannot contribute at this time; we ask for you to please share this. Once again thank you for taking the time in reading this.
Thank You,
Marina, Jessica and Carlos
