Marigold Project

Donation protected
Richard Gage Design Studio and anhelo anhelo* teamed up to organize a community based art event, the Marigold Project.

Over the last 2 months almost 200 metro Detroit area residents, local businesses, and community farms, in 20 different cities in the area joined the Marigold Project.  Each participant received a pack of seeds in the mail and are now growing marigolds, sharing their experiences through email, a community newsletter, and on the anhelo anhelo website.

The culminating event of this project is an immersive art installation that will take place in Hazel Park at the end of October.  It will be a large scale outdoor installation built of marigold blooms that will be accessible to the public, implementing all appropriate Covid-19 safety measures.

In addition to the sculptural installation, anhelo anhelo is producing a limited edition, hand-bound art publication that will launch in conjunction with the event in October.  anhelo anhelo has put out a free open call to local and international artists and writers to submit their marigold themed works to this publication.

So far this project has been completely self-funded and now we could use some help.

THE FUNDS WE HOPE TO RAISE WILL GO TOWARD:

materials for the culminating installation
refreshments and ambiance for the installation
printing costs for the publication
other material costs related to the publication (cover materials, binding supplies)
honorariums for artists and writers contributing to the publication
shipping costs for artists and writers to receive their copies of the publication
design work related to the publication

With your help we can make the the vision we have for this public artwork so much larger than we would be able to on our own.   We can do more to support young artists who are struggling to make ends meet and get their careers up and running in the midst of a global pandemic.

THANK YOU! Your support is sincerely appreciated.

anhelo anhelo is a sole-proprietorship founded in 2018 that serves as a resource for emerging artists working outside the traditional gallery context.  It is run by non-binary sculptor and fabricator alexandra virginia (ginny) martin.
