Meet my best friend Marie!
We have known, supported and loved each other for nearly 30 years and she is the most amazing woman I've ever known.
In 2012 this beautiful mother of 4 amazing children was diagnosed with Inflammatory breast cancer. A fast moving, aggressive and rare form of cancer. And so her battle began...
She started with 8 months of chemo, followed by a bilateral mastectomy - on Christmas Eve no less! Then next came 25 rounds of radiation and the fight of her life. We are happy to say she is now 3.5 years cancer free! Hurray!!!
After treatment she was put on the reconstruction list to rebuild her breasts and was told there was 1-2 year waiting list. After two years and no call to schedule an appointment, she was told no one could find her referral and was put back at the bottom of the list. So finally after waiting twice as long as everyone else, she had her consultation for the surgery in early October 2016. She is to be booked in for the surgery early in the new year as soon as an opening becomes available for this 12 hour procedure.
While going through treatment she did not access any funding available to her because she had a husband who was taking care of all of their expenses and a family of support while fighting for her life. Just 2 short weeks after the completion of her treatment her husband asked for a divorce leaving her on her own with an entirely new set of struggles.
She is now making a very small income as an extremely talented artisan, but due to a very poor economy and a recent lay off is finding it extremely difficult to make ends meet. She struggles daily with the residual effects from the chemo that have left her with numbness in those beautiful talented hands, joint and muscle pain as well as lymphedema in her right arm.
The funding available to her now would not adequately cover all her expenses during her long recovery. She will be working as much as possible to pay as much ahead of time as she can, but desperately needs help to cover the rest.
Anyone that knows this amazing woman can tell you how strong and brave she is. Marie smiles and laughs and loves through it all. If any person I know truly deserves financial help and our support it's this one!
All funds earned will be used to help Marie pay her general living expenses during her long recovery after her breast reconstruction surgery.
I know she will be eternally grateful for all your generosity and is far too proud to ask for help.
