Marie's long term medical expenses

Donation protected
In Jan 2012 Marie suffered 2 strokes loosing 75 to 80% of the left side of her brain.  She was able to come home in April and I was able to care for her.  In May 2014 Marie suffered 2 more strokes and lost a significant part of the right side of her brain.  During her hospital stay she developed a staff infection due to internal bleeding which required surgery.  It went septic along with 6 other majors issues.  These left her a quadriplegic and was not able to come home.  She has been in long term care since leaving the hospital in Feb 2015.  This has depleted all of our cash.  We are both on disability income and do not qualify for Medicade.

For most of our adult lives we raised well into 6 figure donations for such charities as MDA, St Jude, March of Dimes, Jr Miss, etc, etc while in the Jaycees.  Then Marie established and ran a program called More Than A Meal for over 10 years.  This program fed the needy in LaPlace, LA over 200 meals every other Tuesday.  It was turned over to a church group and is still serving the needy.

Marie was not expected to live after the first two strokes but did much better than the Drs expected.  During her over 9 month stay in the hospital from May 2014 to Feb 2015 they called me in 3 times to tell me she would not make it through the night.  Over 2.3 years later she is still here.

I have no idea why GOD has chosen to keep Marie here in this state, but I know he has a good reason.

I drive almost 70 miles round trip a day to sit with her and make sure she is cared for properly.   We have been together since we were 16, and will celebrate our 49th anniversary in Aug.

I have been disabled since 1998 and can not go to work.  Our total combined income will not pay the monthly cost of her care.

At this point I don't know what else to do but ask for help from total strangers.  The only thing I can give back in return at this point is some advice.

I did not know about long term care insurance and that Medicare does not cover long term care until after Marie had her stroke.  Also if you have considerable assets consider setting up an asset protection plan with a reputable attorney in your local community.  In the US, Medicade can go back 5 years, and there is talk of them going to a 7 year look back, to undo asset protection plans such as trusts.

The $25,000 + is to take care of her long term care through the end of 2017.

GOD Bless, and thank you for considering a donation for Marie.
