Marielle vs. TNBC

On January 17, 2018 Marielle was diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer. This type of cancer is also triple negative, which means that it can be difficult to treat as it doesn’t respond to the hormone treatments that are typically used. Marielle and I have been married for three and half years and in 2016 we welcomed a son, Henry.  For the last month we have had multiple doctors’ appointments every week, each one telling us more and more about what Marielle is up against. There is a long and daunting road ahead, but she is very determined to beat this.    We are usually very private people, not wanting to bother others with anything, but we have already started to feel the pinch from shortened paychecks. We realized we cannot do this alone, thankfully most of the treatment will be covered by insurance, but our savings will be depleted by the time the deductible is met. What will not be covered will be our living expenses, Marielle was hoping to go back to work, but the oncologist has told her that may not be possible. She begins treatment on the 8th of February, looking forward to 23 weeks of chemotherapy, once every two weeks for two months then once a week for 3 months, followed by surgery and radiation treatment. This will make paying our bills very difficult, if not impossible.   I feel helpless in the sense that I can't do anything to help directly, I can’t carry this burden for her, I can’t make it go away tomorrow. What I can do is, help with any dietary needs, love/support and get the word out that we need help.
