Marie Gorton - Cancer Christmas Wish

My mum was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in August 2015 a fortnight after suddenly losing her son, my brother, to a workplace accident. Over the last five years, she has bravely fought cancer by undergoing years of treatment including surgery to remove two melanomas and 23 lymph nodes, chemotherapy and radiation, and a double mastectomy.
 
In October 2019, cancer had progressed to stage four which prompted me to pack up my life and relocated from QLD to WA to care for her, with the support of my partner. Despite undergoing more cancer treatment, in July 2020 we received the confronting news that cancer had metastasised to her lung with the tumour growing at an alarming and aggressive rate, tripling in size within two months. Another PET scan conducted in September showed cancer had caused her lung to collapse and spread to her liver and bones with a devastating prognosis of 2 months to live. Our goal is quality of life and to see Christmas and the New Year together.
 
She is 63 years old and single apart from her 16-year-old Labrador who is forever by her side. She is without the financial means to cover transport, medical, equipment, aides expenses or to fulfil her bucket list. Completing a bucket list with my mum has been helpful in her coming to terms with her end of life journey however it would be nice to maybe be able to complete some of the activities within her medical restrictions.
