OrCam
I have known Maria for around 15 years .. she is one of the most amazing people I know .. despite her being blind she is always smiling.. when I met her she had some sight .. she was very short sighted but now is compleatly blind.
If you haven yet heard of the OrCam here is the link to see how fantastic and vital this equipment is for her..

Maria's story ....
Maria has glaucoma iritis uveitis. She has had both eyes operated on .. the first was in 2011 and the second one in 2015.. the operations were to remove the iris and pupil from each eye .. she is now only left with the Corina in both eyes. Maria has no sight what so ever and cannot distinguish between light and dark.

Maria is a single mother to Chelsea, in January Chelsea will be 18. Maria obviously can't work and as Chelsea turns 18 they will loose child support even though Chelsea is goin onto further education. Also Chelsea will become an adult career .. she is part of a Kingston young careers scheme until she is 18 where she has had help and support. As Chelsea grows up and her social life picks up she would be relieved to know her mum could cope at home once she gets this amazing piece of equipment.

Maria gets on with life the best she can , she is a purple belt in choi Kwang do .. she loves going at least once a week, getting out of her flat, the exercise and being able to socialising with her fellow martial arts students.

Maria loves books and listens to audio books but with an OrCam she would now ba able to read letters newspapers and even Chelseas school reports

mid August Maria had a demonstration of the OrCam and was very impressed.. just a few examples and advantages:
If Maria needs an plumber, electrician or anyone who has been booked to come and help her at home, she can scan their ID (with the glasses on) just by looking at an ID car to make sure they are who they say they are.
When doing her and Chelseas washing, look and know what colours each item is to separate them so no more pink .. white wash!
By pointing at food items in her fridge cupboard and even cleaning products she will know exactly what she is picking up
being able to read menus in restaurants and cafes.
face recognition
These are just a few advantages please click on the link above to find out more.
