Unfortunately she is one of many who is fighting cancer. My mom was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2015 and was under the care of a doctor who misdiagnosed the growth of the cancer as a "fungal infection". When she went in for a second opinion at The City of Hope in September of this year, the doctor instantly confirmed that the cancer indeed was alive and growing. My mom underwent a massive ten hour surgery to remove a large portion of her tongue, as well as to view lymph-nodes in her neck.
Well, here we are two months later and unfortunately all of the cancer could not have been removed by surgery. Mom can speak, but she has a trach and struggles with breathing. She just began treatment for the remaining cancer on both her tongue as well as for some recently detected cancer cells in her throat.
Over the next 6 weeks she will undergoe chemo, radiation and potentially immunotherapy if needed. Her most loyal companion John has been with her, and us since day one of surgery. He is by her side day and night to help with the care that is needed (trach care, stomach-tube feeding, and medicine administration). Well, John needs to get back home to the Pacific Northwest to care for his own mother for a few weeks, our family is at a loss as to how to help mom get through this. Like everyone we know, my brother and I have full-time jobs as well as young dependent children. Thus our family finds ourself in need of asking for help from loved ones to hopefully help get mom through this fight of her life. Thank you to anyone who can help!
