I am humbly asking for help for my family in Moca, Puerto Rico.
Go Fund Me takes 10% of the proceeds but I figured I'll create a page for those that would feel more comfortable donating through a site such as this. For my family and friends that care to message me privately please do so. I will donate 100% of any and all proceeds directly to multiple family members in Puerto Rico.
My family is a proud one, and it is no surprise that characteristic is one that lives within me as well. As such, it has been difficult to get a determination of the full scope of the damage they have experienced. After a brief conversation with my stepmother, it was clear they are suffering and struggling much more than they let on.
As a result, I have decided to spearhead a collection to help them in any way I can. I am flying down for two days to see firsthand how bad they are affected and what they need. I do know they suffered damages to the home, lost appliances and bad damage to one or more of their vehicles....this all of course comes secondary to the basic essentials they will need to endure the several weeks and months ahead with no power and severely limited resources.
This problem is bigger than all of us, but even the smallest donations will help ease the pain and suffering of many. This disaster has been a humbling experience for me, and I have not stopped thinking about how fragile life is and hoe important it is to come together and lift those that may need help and are too proud to ask for it. Who you are and where you’re from - My name is Erik Valentin I live in West Palm Beach, Florida. A large portion of my family, including my father, brothers, sister, godmother, aunts uncles and cousins have been greatly affected by hurricane Maria. I set up this go fund me account so that I can fly to Puerto Rico and disperse the funds directly to them.
Your relationship or contact to the parties you're raising funds for - The funds are intended to go directly to my father, stepmother, brothers, sister and nephew as a primary and aunts, uncles and cousins as a secondary.
How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible) this is still unclear. The allocation will be based on what is most needed and what will make the best impact to help them get through the next couple of months.
Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary/ies
I intend on withdrawing the funds and donating as much cash as necessary and purchasing things such as appliances and nonperishable goods once I am in Puerto Rico.
I have also already purchased my own ticket to fly down for 30 hours. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need anything else. This is my first time attempting to raise funds for a cause and I am trying to wing it as best as I can.
