Help Us Keep Our Village Facilities Alive and Thriving
For years, Paul and I have looked after our village sports field — mowing the grass, maintaining the space and making sure it’s a place everyone can enjoy.
A while back, the council gave us a choice:
Take on the lease and responsibility for the field ourselves,
or
Watch it be locked up and left unused.
We couldn’t let that happen.
So, we signed a 25-year lease, taking on the upkeep, insurance and maintenance of the field and later, when the local community association folded, we took on the MUGA, its car park and even the village defibrillator too.
Today, we’re proudly (and voluntarily!) responsible for three key community assets:
The Sports Field – a space for recreation, wellbeing and community connection.
The MUGA & Car Park – with floodlights powered and maintained for evening use.
The Village Defibrillator – registered on “The Circuit” and available 24/7 to save lives.
Why We Need Your Help
Running these vital spaces isn’t free.
Insurance now costs over £1,000 per year
Electricity for the floodlights is nearly the same again
And then there’s grass cutting, equipment, storage and defibrillator upkeep
We’ve been incredibly fortunate with grants and fundraising over the years and keep costs as low as possible. We also charge small fees to groups who use the facilities to help cover expenses.
This year, we’ve made huge progress improving the sports field thanks to grants and local partnerships — but the ongoing costs of insurance and electricity continue to rise and are unavoidable.
How You Can Help
Donate if you can – every contribution, no matter the size, helps keep these spaces open, safe and accessible to everyone.
If you can’t give financially, you can still support us by:
Picking up litter or rubbish when you see it
Respecting and using the facilities
Spreading the word about our work
Together, we can keep our MUGA, sports field and village defibrillator alive, safe and available for generations to come.
Thank you for being part of our community and helping to keep it strong.
