Help the Children at Hillcrest!

Donation protected
Help me bring a world of happiness to the children of Hillcrest School. I am gathering supplies to give to the school when I arrive on the 1st of July. I am buying pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, balloons, bubbles, balls, and coloring books. There are 55 kids who attend the school and I am putting together care packages for each one of them.

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed, shared my story on their facebook walls, or just sent me well wishes and kind words about this trip... I can't tell you how humbling it is to belong to such an amazing and generous community.

As most of you know, I am currently working towards becoming an elementary school teacher and am just about to complete my junior year at San Francisco State University. I expect to be graduating in the spring 2014 and from there entering the credentialing program at SFSU. On top of my studies, and over the last few years, I have regularly spent at least 10 hours a week volunteering at Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy, located in San Francisco's Castro District, in different capacities. I have worked as a fundraiser, as a board member of a non-profit that oversaw the before & after-school programs, and my favorite, as an in-class volunteer to Mr. Sato's Kindergarten class. I have always held the belief that it takes a village to raise a child, and this is my effort as a global village member to make a difference in the lives of children who need the most help! School was always such an important part of my life, so I want to help make sure today's children get the best education possible.

In continuing my goal of reaching the hearts and minds of the youth of today, I have an extraordinary opportunity to travel to Africa, specifically northern Tanzania near Mt. Kilimanjaro, this summer and work with orphaned children. I will be there for 4 weeks in July. These children, whose parents have died as a result of AIDS, have nothing but the support of their community and the global community to help them become the best and brightest people they can be! Education in Tanzania is an extremely important part of their society and most children love to go to school. As a volunteer I will be helping teachers with their lessons, sports and recreation, and daily chores such as cleaning and laundry.

So, how can you help?
Cash donations of any amount would help. $5, $10, $100 or maybe even $1000! Any amount.

I have set a goal of raising $5000. That is why I am enlisting the help you, my friends, my family members, my community to help me make this dream possible. The $5000 that I am now hoping to raise will help cover airfare, travel insurance, lodging, food, vaccinations, visas and work permits, and also some supplies for the school where I will be placed.

For those of you who want to give money the old fashion way, you can mail me checks to the following address:
