Marco Polo Needs a Lift

My dad is Marco Polo, and he was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) early on in his prime. PPMS is the rarest form of MS , and in its progressed state, renders a person with limited mobility.

Dad has been in a wheelchair for over ten years now, and his symptoms continue to progress making it harder for him to move around in his own home, a home he has lived in for over 40 years, raised 2 sons in, and ran a business out of until it got too hard for him to continue.

He is in need of a chair lift to continue living safely in his own home, parts and labor to cost US$20,000. My parents have faced many challenges over the years, and have been able to deal with medical expenses on their own, but with Dad's business closing and with Mom retiring, the cost for the chair lift is just too much for us to shoulder on our own as a family.

My Dad contributed greatly to the local community. He employed people in his greenhouse seasonally, donated plants to schools, nursing homes, to churches, and to many local fundraisers, and he was even a volunteer fire fighter years ago for the city of Scanlon.

Even up to now, despite all the physical limitations Dad has, he pushes on. From building planters, to growing and maintaining his garden, to maintaining the home he's put his blood and sweat into, he continues on, and remains to be a great inspiration.
