Marco has lost everything ... give him a hand up
Donation protected
On new years day 2020, Marco's home and all his possessions were destroyed in the catastrophic bushfires that ravaged the South Coast of NSW.
 Road into Marco's
Marco carved out a simple life in the bush west of Cobargo surrounded by Wadbiligo National Park. He hand built his off grid home and grew garlic and zinea flowers which he sold at local markets to pay for essential supplies. He has lost everything. Marco is not alone in this tragedy but his situation is exacerbated by falling through the cracks of Government support and being uninsured.
Remains of Marco's hand built home
On the day of the fires Marco left to seek shelter in nearby Cobargo. He called in to check on his on his neighbour and stayed to help him defend his house...which survived.
Marco's elderly mother also lives on his property and she too has lost everything and would like to return to her sanctuary in the bush.
 Marco needs help...NOW!
Marco needs a caravan to live in while he rebuilds and replants his market garden. He needs tools, pump, seeds, wheelbarrow, fencing and the love and support that comes with a helping hand. Friends are planning a working bee to help clean up in the coming weeks but financial assistance is desperately needed. We are looking at purchasing a second hand caravan in Sydney next week and towing it down to Marco's. So if you can donate please do it now or as soon as you can in the next few days. Marco is a good, humble and decent man... a bushie and musician who has weathered many of life's storms and survived. But this time he needs a hand. Please, give him your support and share this amongst your friends and networks.
About the organiser
My name is David Batty. Im a filmaker, friend and also live in the bush on the South Coast. I too have hand built and carved out an off grid home just south of Bermagui. We were all deeply effected by the bush fire disaster and many are still traumatised, homeless and need help. Luckily my home was spared ... Just!
As the news cycle now turns its attention to other national and world crisies...the plight of individuals is being forgotten. Marco is one of many who fall through the cracks and do not qualify for Government assistance to rebuild or are uninsurable. But he is my friend and someone I want to support. This is a way to assist somebody directly and without filtering through agencies, organisations or getting in the cue. Marco has devoted his life to caring for wildlife and the bush. Now its our turn to care for him.
