Marcie Obliterating Myeloma (MOM)

Donation protected
Everyone knows that my mom, Marcie New, is an incredible healer, sister, Granny, and friend. Her chiropractic patients love her for the wonderful care and empathy she shows them. Marcie's friends and family rely on her and can count on her to be there whenever we need her. Now she needs us to be there for her!! This summer Marcie had been feeling tired; more tired than usual, but just thought she had overdone it. Unfortunately, rest and relaxation didn't allow for Marcie to recover her energy and on Aug. 21st she ended up at the ER. Initial results showed extreme anemia, but why?

Many days and many many tests later, a diaganosis was given - Multiple Myeloma. We certainly didn't expect this after her valiant and successful battle against Inflammatory Breast Cancer 11 years ago. So many people assisted in that fight and we thank you again for that!

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells mainly found in the bone marrow. It can cause anemia, bone problems, higher risk of infection, and kidney issues. Marcie has obviously experienced the anemia and recent scans show bone lesions (holes). Thankfully, her kidney function is good.

As we met with the oncologist, he said there have been good advances in treatment of Multiple Myeloma in the last 10-15 years, and that she should get started right away. Typical treatment comes in three phases. The first phase of treatment is made up of three drugs and is given in 12 cycles of 21 days, or nearly 9 months long. The second phase of treatment could involve a stem cell transplant. Following remission and transplant, they have a maintenance phase, which means more drugs for a couple years or more.  THIS WILL BE A LONG FIGHT!

Marcie started her first round of treatment which should have included the 3 drugs, but one drug is very expensive (over $4000/month) and initial efforts to secure a grant have been unsuccesful. We would really like to make sure she can start the full protocol as soon as possible!

For those of you who may not know my mother, she is a single, self-employed Chiropractor and we are unsure how much she will be able to work during this battle with Myeloma. Out of pocket and other monthly expenses could top $10,000/month. Any funds raised will be used towards uncovered medical expenses as well as other expenses no longer covered due to lost income.

Anything you can do to help my mother in this war against cancer, will be greatly appreciated! I live 2 hours away and cannot be there for her full-time, but I know she has a great community ready to rally around her. Thank you again in advance!
