Multiple Sclerosis -Ongoing MS Medication & Care Support
Donation protected
.People afflicted with MS need your support. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, the brain and spinal cord. Its symptons affect daily life of those living with this disease in a variety of ways. There is currently no cure for MS and left untreated, the disease progresses and causes more damage to the central nervous system.
Here's one family's story
Ashely is a 40 year old woman who was diagnosed with MS in 2011. She is married with three teenage children. She receives Social Security Disability benefits with Medicare as her health insurance. Due to her disability, she is unable to work full time. However, she does part-time work remotely. Her husband works full time managing a business in their local community.
Ashely’s routine symptoms include fatigue, numbness, weakness, and at times pain in her face, speech issues, cognitive issues, bladder issues and weakness in her legs. She was recently diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) which is both a neurological and cardiac disorder, common with people with MS. This condition recently required hospitalization.
Medication to slow progression and manage symptoms are available, but are extremely expensive, even with health insurance. Over the last fourteen years, out of pocket medical expenses have ranged from $12,000 - $20.000 yearly. Kesimpta is her current medication which on recent MRI’s is showing less progression of the disease and less relapses. The retail cost of Kesimpta is approximately $88,000 a year. With her health insurance, her co-pay is $2650 a month. At times, charitable organizations have helped but that is not guaranteed and funds are not always available.
Personal savings are becoming depleted and the family has decided it’s time to ask for help. A special account has been established to pay for medication and other related expenses. If you’re able and would like to assist this family, any donation would be greatly appreciated.
